What's New in Cinapse — January 2026

Update
January 26, 2026

January’s release delivers a mix of new capabilities, production-management improvements, and important fixes across scheduling, importing, permissions, and performance.

This update focuses on making Cinapse even more flexible as productions scale — while smoothing out real-world edge cases reported by working ADs and production teams.

🔁 Subscription & Production Management

Upgrade Path: Starter → Team → Team Pro

You can now upgrade seamlessly between Starter, Team, and Team Pro as your production grows — without needing to reach out to the Cinapse team.

This makes it easier to start small and scale up only when you need additional features, seats, or permissions.

👥 Buy Additional Seats for Your Production

Productions can now add more seats mid-run, giving teams flexibility as new collaborators join.

If you only need seats for part of the production, our team can still help tailor this — but the default self-serve flow is now faster and clearer.

To upgrade or add seats:

  • Select the production name next to the Cinapse logo, or
  • Select My Account, or
  • Select Members

Then navigate to Production Settings → Plan.

🔑 Transfer Ownership Workflow

A new ownership transfer workflow is now available, making it easier to hand off productions when roles change or teams transition.

You can access this via the My Productions page — right-click or use the menu on the right side of a production to transfer ownership, upgrade plans, rename the production, and more.

🖼️ Breakdown Sheets: Images (New!)

You can now upload images directly to breakdown sheets.

This unlocks richer visual context for props, wardrobe, locations, VFX, and more — especially helpful for prep-heavy or visually complex productions.

Pro tip: Upload reference images from Shotdeck or other visual libraries to keep everything in one place.

New breakdown reports that include images are coming soon.

📥 Importing & Data Integrity Improvements

We shipped several important fixes to script and schedule importing to ensure schedules reflect exactly what you intended — no missing data, no silent changes.

Fixed:

  • Repeated strips and breakdowns (e.g. weather cover scenes used multiple times throughout a schedule) are no longer deduplicated when importing .cinapse files
  • Importing Scriptation into an existing file now correctly places new strips into the Scrapyard for use across all stripboards
  • Importing Scriptation files now correctly respects Episodic vs Feature Film file types
  • Overall improvements to reliability and accuracy across Scriptation and .cinapse imports

These fixes directly address real-world episodic, revision-heavy, and multi-board workflows.

🧭 Scheduling & Calendar Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where Editor users could not duplicate calendars
  • Fixed right-click copy / paste menu behavior on the stripboard
  • Improved change function performance across schedules

🔎 Navigation, Search & UI Improvements

  • Improved free-text searching across productions
  • Fixed an issue where special characters were not displaying correctly in the production navigation
  • General UI polish and stability improvements

🔐 Authentication & Platform Improvements

  • Improved login, sign-up, and authentication flows
  • Backend and platform updates to support safer, faster releases going forward

What’s Next

Coming soon:

  • Private Stripboards (Team Pro only)
  • Reporting UI upgrades and new layouts
  • Expanded publishing and permissions workflows
  • Continued performance and reliability improvements
